    Updated post!

    Let’s nosedive straight into it.

Like many companies all around the world, the one I work for has been subjected to automation and restructuring.

The good news is that the “retrenchment exercise” appears to have been kept to a minimum, with only four or five people (that we know of, at least) let go.

So, what’s the problem, you ask?

The lack of transparency and honesty truly stings.

The company did not tell us about the retrenchment exercise.

Instead, the boss skirted questions asked about it during a meeting with the employees.

On top of that, department heads — who would ordinarily be in a position to speak up for affected employees — were themselves left out of the loop.

The boss also did not explain why they were neither informed nor involved in the decision-making process.

We, the employees, have been locked in confusion for the past few weeks since news of retrenchment started taking the shape of fearful whispers in the office.

Adding to the confusion, some retrenched employees who were on holiday were left out of the loop.

But wait, it gets weirder with the retrenched employee(s).

I’m going to have to continue later because dinner awaits.

    UPDATES here!

Alright I am back, and have more to say.

Adding another twist to the saga, at least one affected employee still does not appear to know they have been retrenched.

We initially figured — through process of elimination — that the employee had been retrenched, since they were still away on holiday and we were told only one person had yet to be informed because they were on annual leave.

It has been about two weeks since the first employee in this latest round of retrenchments was informed.

This, in itself, is a problematic situation.

    I have questions.

    Here are my questions:

♡ Why have they not sent an email, or arranged for an online meeting, to inform the employee(s)?

♡ Where is the retrenched employee and why have we not heard from them, when we’ve heard from everyone else?

Rumour has it the employee has extended their holiday, creating the rather absurd situation of someone possibly outlasting a retrenchment simply by not coming back yet.

I’m curious and want to know what’s up.

Okay that’s all for now, kthxbyegn
